Journal of Chana Meira Golden

Friends and visitors, I’ve returned from hiatus to resume bringing you insights from my world. I felt a tug to return to occasional blogging after I had reached a special milestone: Five years ago, I made Israel my home. Recent weeks were a time of quiet celebration and contemplation of my earliest years as an immigrant.

Culture shock? What’s that? My passion for God, along with a professional background in legal, civic, and interfaith affairs, prepared me for a transition to life in Israel. Life brings its challenges, along with my thankfulness that God makes a way for me to rise and meet them.

Not surprisingly, my resolve to leave politics behind in the U.S. did not last long. Less government is better government; however, the political process is as fascinating to me as current affairs are relevant. I view matters more broadly in light of history and my Jewish faith, and consider social questions in terms of what is just and what works. This makes for lively discussion and interesting bedfellows indeed!

For relaxation, I value times spent with close friends and appreciate music festivals (have tambourine, will travel). Designing and delivering personalized food and gift baskets is fun, and I’m looking forward to my annual Purim street outreach to the homeless.

Back to the blog: what is in store here? First and foremost, to be consistent with my life, I continue to bring openness and integrity to the web, as reflected in the title of this blog. The name Meira means “one who illuminates.” I have received friendship and respect, along with the rare disagreement, from other bloggers, but I write only for the approval of an audience of One.

It is a privilege as well as a right to remark on any topic I find meaningful. I appreciate shout-outs from the amen corner, respect honest disagreement, and as a freethinker, I expect to raise some curiosity. The comment section is open for your good thoughts.
